Encore ... Skyjacked by Sukie

When the unthinkable happens on the way to visit her brother, Bella finds herself in terrible danger. More than just the elements are against her and the others as they fight for survival on a deserted island. She finds not only safety in Edward, but also her soulmate. Will that be enough if they aren’t rescued in time?
Skyjack    verb:   to commandeer an aircraft, usually at gunpoint during flight, forcing the pilot to fly somewhere other than to the scheduled destination

There was no doubt in my mind that the story the Captain told was just that, a story. There was no light to check out and as if to back that thought up, as I headed toward the cockpit door, it swung open to reveal Jacob Black and Riley Biers, the two guys who had been causing trouble earlier on in the flight. They were also both on the list Marcus had sent me and even though there was no incriminating information held on file, that didn’t convince me that they weren’t involved in something. I didn’t know what it was yet, but I was determined to find out.
Now that the plane had come to a halt close to one of the hangers, I was pretty sure that Black and Biers were attempting to hijack it; I just didn’t know why yet.
Black raised the gun he held. “Get back to your seat, fucker? You hear me? Mind your own fucking business or I’ll put a bullet in you.”
Raising my hands to show I wasn’t a threat, I retreated a few steps. The gun didn’t waver but my eyes flicked behind him to see the Captain lying on the floor, a pool of blood underneath his head and Biers standing over him.
“Do you need any help?” I managed to make my voice quaver, figuring that he would be less inclined to think of me as any sort of threat. My eyes flicked back to him and he slowly lowered the gun.
“You a doctor?” he grunted.
Nah, but my Dad is so I know a fair bit.” I tried to sound nonchalant and it must have worked to some extent because he motioned me forward with the gun indicating the interior of the cabin. I edged past him carefully and knelt on the floor.
“We need him able to assist the co-pilot to fly this hunk of metal out of here.” Black spoke again.
Instead of answering him, I looked around and saw the co-pilot slumped over the aircraft controls, unconscious.
Well it doesn’t look like he’s fit either does it?” My comment was sarcastic, and earned me a swift kick in the side from Biers.
“He will be,” he ground out.
I carefully turned the Captain over noting that his name was James Hunter. Rubbing his sternum as I had seen my Dad do, I spoke to him. “Captain Hunter James can you hear me?”
He groaned and his eyes flickered open, but his gaze wasn’t clear. I could see a nasty gash on the side of his head that looked suspiciously like the mark a bullet would make. Now I was concerned; a head wound bled a lot but the problem would be that he might not wake and if he did, he might not be able to pilot a plane. There was nothing I could do for now, except to clean him up and make him comfortable.
“Can we move him out there?” I indicated the seats in front of the cockpit. At Black’s nod, Biers took his heels and together we lifted him and laid him across the two seats where Heidi had lifted the arms to provide a little comfort for the man.
A tap on my shoulder had me spinning around and I only just barely managed to avoid my immediate action to pull my gun. Bella looked a little taken aback and looked at me warily.
“I can help,” she whispered. Turning to Black, who stood further back, she explained she was a nurse. Instead of answering her, his gaze stroked over every inch of her body, leering. His eyes narrowed and he took a step forward. Bella equally took one back, until she was leaning against me. Black’s eyes rose to mine, smirking but he nodded, agreeing without speaking.
Stunned at the possessiveness and anger that coursed through me at that moment, I said nothing, trying to work out why I felt that way. It was too soon, my mind screamed. I’d only known her for a bare few hours, but I was unable to deny that I felt something for her; I just didn't know what or how much further the feelings might grow. I sighed mentally and returned my attention to the situation, knowing that now Bella was on Black’s radar and his thoughts were not pleasant; he wanted her. What’s more, I had become known to him now and it was likely he’d take any opportunity to bring me down.
Black finally turned away from us and Bella asked Heidi if she had a first aid kit.
“Of course, miss
“Just Bella, thanks, Heidi.” Bella smiled at her.
“Bella,” Heidi nodded and stepped into the galley. Reaching into an overhead cupboard, she produced the kit she was asked for and handed it to her. Opening it, Bella, removed gauze, and antiseptic and proceeded to clean Hunter’s wound and apply a bandage, which did ease the bleeding. He still showed no signs of coming round, but his breathing was easier, so I was hopeful he would recover.
The sound of a voice from the radio in the cockpit interrupted my musings as Black stepped toward the coms. “Black, that you?”
“Caius, my old friend. You here already, man?”
“That I am, Jacob. You ready for me and Paul?”
“Good stuff. Any police or soldiers?”
“A few, but I reckon we can get around them, no problem. I’ve some men prepared to create a nice little diversion, leaving us free to make it through to you in around thirty minutes.” He laughed. “Just listen for the big bang.”
He signed off and Black turned to Heidi. “You heard? My friends will be with us soon. We’ll be taking off as soon as they get here. In the meantime” He thrust a list at herkyjacked. “... I want to see these people.”
“What do you want them for?” I questioned. Swinging around, Black glared at me, obviously having forgotten I was still standing there.
“What’s it to you, fucker? It’s none of your business.” He glared at me, before his gaze sliding over Bella once more. I moved to stand in front of her to block him, but he only smirked.

I wasn't sure if this was the best time to let him know who I was, but it looked like not only was he about to get reinforcements but also was prepared to take us all to hell knows where. The why was still unknown, but it couldn’t be good. Bella’s touch reminded me she was still behind me, and my mind was instantly made up. If I could somehow stop them from taking off, albeit an almost impossible task, then I would have to take the chance.

Fran's Pick ... In the Land of Sweetwater by anna.who.was.mad

In the Land of Sweetwater by anna.who.was.mad

Summer. 1957. Sixteen-year-old Isabella is unexpectedly thrown into the unforgiving hive of wealth and excess that is Sweetwater, Virginia. When she befriends a beautiful boy with shadows of his own, the two uncover a shocking web of lies that irrevocably tie them together.

Okay ... so this is a fic I’ve been reading since the first day.
I love the ‘old soul’ vibe it has.  It’s filled with mystery for sure, but set in the 50s the description is there, you can almost see it in black and white.

June of 1957 came in with a heat wave as bad as any I could remember. I had just turned sixteen and instead of preparing to finish high school, I found a job at the general store in town running the cash register for Frank Walters. I was quick with numbers and always had a smile, so he stuck me up front. At least, that's what he said. Truth is, I was never one to smile much.
I wore poverty like a scarlet letter across my chest and I hated every second of it. Instead of moving us in town to a nicer place, Mama spent all the money she made on new dresses, cosmetics, and her running tab at the tavern. Everyone knew Renee Higginbotham was a loose war widow, much to my embarrassment.
Mama looked an awful lot like Grace Kelly, and at the age of thirty-two, she still had youth on her side. She always told me to stay out of the sun so I wouldn't lose my complexion, but I never listened. It wasn't quite summer yet and I already had a glow from my bicycle rides to work and back

"Where are you going?"
"I'm meeting up with Trudy."
It was completely normal for Mama to be on the go and meeting up with someone, but I felt so awkward with secret information tumbling around in my head. "Alright. Will you be home tonight?" Since I was in grade school, Mama sometimes wouldn't make it home until the next day.
"I'll be home when I get home. You're my daughter, not my mother."
"I wish," she started to say, but her voice cracked. I was too afraid to move, too shocked by her touch. After a deep breath, she began again. "I wish I knew how to love you."

Everything looked the same, but everything was different. I could feel it somehow, like what little life was in the house was sucked out, never to return.

I sat down at the table so I could rest my pounding head on my folded arms. At least I didn't have to wonder where I stood with Mama anymore. That's what I told myself before I noticed the pink envelope sitting on the table with my name written across it. It was stationary I saved up to buy her for her birthday last February. That was a good day. We ate cake she brought home from the bakery and she was a happy drunk that night as if eating all that sugar made her sweeter.
My fingers felt stiff as I opened up the envelope and pulled out a letter along with two dollar bills.

Izzy,
I was your age when I had you and I think I did a good job raising you up. It's my time now to live the life I always wanted to before you were born. Things happen sometimes beyond our control and we have to make do with what we are left.
When I was fifteen years old, I went into Sweetwater with my daddy while he was on a job. That's where I met Charles Swan. I'll spare you the details, but before I knew it Charles was off to Harvard and I found out I was going to be a mother. Phil worked with my daddy and was sweet on me, so I took the opportunity that was available and married him. He loved you despite knowing you were not his child.
Charles wants you. I don't know how he figured it out. His mama was the only one who knew about me and Charles and she hated me with a passion. I was alone and terrified, so I took her for her word when she offered money to me as long as I didn't ever come back with my bastard child. And I didn't.
Take a bus to Sweetwater and go to Swan House. It's the largest plantation in all of Sweetwater, maybe all of Virginia, so you won't be able to miss it. I suppose it is your birthright. I never considered Charles would want anything to do with his illegitimate child. We all make mistakes.
He wants you and you go ahead and tell him that he has my full permission to take you in. It's for the best.
Regards,
Renee
I was certain I was going to throw up as the word "regards" bounced around inside my skull. There it was in writing, everything she'd never say to me directly.
She was making her getaway.

Encore ... Neopolitan by CiaraShayee

He was the beautiful blond-haired stranger from the bar, and she was the pretty brunette barmaid who couldn't resist him. Together, they burned. Apart, they were cold. As cold as the ice cream trickling over the fingers of a little boy with strawberry hair. There are a million different flavors of ice cream out there worth trying, or maybe just one; Neapolitan

“So, Jake’s not your boyfriend. Could I be so lucky as to assume that there isn’t one?”
Bella smirked, raising her eyebrows. “Why, Mr. Cullenare you flirting?”
Instead of being embarrassed, Carlisle simply grinned, a wicked sparkle to his gaze. Bella came to the sudden realization that her pretty new lace panties probably weren’t going to make it.
Ah well, never mind. Totally worth it.
“Maybe I am. Would that be okay?”
“Well…” Bella pretended to think about it. She loved the way it made Carlisle frown, his eyes narrowing, lips pursing, long fingers tapping the glass in his hand. She wanted those fingers on her.
Or in me, whatever. I’m not greedy. Okay, so maybe I am.
Electricity hummed in the air between them, warmth radiating from Carlisle’s knee where it touched Bella’s calf hanging over the bar. Even through their trousers, she could feel him; feel the vibrations skittering from his body into hers. It felt as though somebody had plugged her into a power point, energy thrumming through her veins and jump-starting her heart as he let his free hand glide up; from the top of her foot encased in her old Chucks, over her shin, her knee where he paused to draw circles which made her shiver. Finally, he stopped at her thigh, lazily squeezing. She shook, desperate for his hand to climb higher to the point between her thighs where she burned for him. Where she ached for his fingers or those kissable lips.
“Bella?”
Hm?” Drunk on the feeling of his hand on her, Bella managed to blink and meet his eyes.
She noticed the heat within them just a second before he changed his hold from gentle to firm, giving her one quick tug to yank her from the bar onto his lap. She straddled him on the stool, squealing quietly when it rocked twice before settling. Bella had barely a second to orient herself before he stole the breath from her lungs, his lips crashing roughly against hers. She hesitated briefly before responding in kind, clutching his strong shoulders as she eagerly welcomed his tongue into her mouth, their kiss all heat, fire, and passion.
He tasted of whiskey but also sweet like Coke, and vaguely minty, like he’d had a fresh mint or smoked a menthol before returning to the bar. His thighs were solid beneath her, his chest firm against hers as she pulled herself as close as possible and nipped at his lower lip.
Bella all-but melted into a puddle at the groan he emitted when her teeth clamped down gently.

Encore ... She Rocks My World By Gabby1017

80's Rocker, Edward Cullen, is the frontman for the enormously popular band, Cullen. He's every woman's dream; handsome, wealthy, and talented, but the elusive rocker has something to hide until an overwhelmingly gifted, doe-eyed beauty steals his heart at first sight and sound.

I’m still in the dressing room as my heart races as I faintly hear the intro. Shaking my fingers and jumping up, I bounce in place, revving up my adrenaline by pounding the beat on the walls with my fists.
My music is my only lifeline.
I take one last look in the full-length mirror. Sliding my hands under the leather of my pants, I adjust myself, then lower the waistband. I decide not to wear my torn T-shirt, leaving me with only the matching vest. Running my fingers through my fully-layered, thick hair, I can’t seem to tame.
I’m ready
As the platform rises, I see Jazz pressing Gertie and wailing her strings tightly under his furious fingers, as Emmett dances across the stage with his bass booming and kicking his legs to the side. Garrett looks down at me tipping his head in a nod.
The pyros blast, sparks fly, explosions boom, crackle, and sizzle, as I ascend to the stage on top of my baby grand piano.
The announcer shouts, “Your American Badasses, Cullen!”
The crowd explodes once I jump up into a split, flares set off around me, as I solidly land on my feet with a loud bang of a drum. I laugh and graciously exaggerate a bow to the screaming audience. Adjusting my leather pants, I pull off the vest, spinning it around over my head, taunting the girls in the front, then throwing it out into the crowd. There’s a major catfight of pushing and shoving, but one victor jumps up and down, clenching my leather in her hands.
Jazz starts to play the beginning of our new hit, “Kiss Me, Baby” and I command the stage strutting from one side to the other puckering my lips and running my tongue over them.
We play three of our new songs, and I feel the need for a drink. I look into the wings and Jen raises a large glass in her hand. Singing, I dance over and grab the glass, mouth a ‘thank you,' take a swig and place it on Garrett’s drum platform.
Every bit the rock star, I play with the crowd and when the song ends, I grab my drink and sit at the piano bench as I tickle some ivories. My piano faces stage-left, and I turn my head to address the audience as lean into the mic, “Hey, Seattle, it’s nice to be close to home.”
The crowd roars.

Classic ... From the FF Vault

This review is brought to you by Kayla Cullen.

Hello! I’m here to talk about a Twilight fanfic that is very close to my heart.
When my friend first suggested that I start reading fanfiction to hold on to my favorite characters, I balked at the idea of losing the connection with what I later learned is known as Canon. On her insistence, I hesitantly picked up the first one she wanted me to read. It was HONEYMOON SUITE by TWILITEADDICT.
The story is exactly what the summary states. It begins with glimpses of Edward and Bella on their honeymoon that weren’t a part of Breaking Dawn. The author uses beautiful imagery in her writing as she leads our favorite couple on their exploration of the physical aspects of love that are so new to them both. Trust me, you will swoon and sigh and fall in love with Edward and Bella all over again as you read this.
Then we move on to what we all know is coming—the unexpected pregnancy. Only this time, you don’t need to see it through Jacob’s eyes. Instead, you get a chance to peek into Edward’s head, and even Bella’s in a few scenes, as they navigate the storm that threatens to rip them apart.
And despite all of this, the best part of the story—in my humble opinion—is yet to come.
After the delivery, after the initiation of Bella’s transformation, TwiliteAddict gives you an opportunity to explore the wonder that is fatherhood through the eyes of our hero—someone who had never expected to find love, let alone a flourishing family, a devoted wife, and a daughter to cherish for the rest of his existence.
You do not want to miss out on a chance to meet this Daddyward. As much as I love and will always love the original books, I can honestly say, it was TwiliteAddict who gave me some beautiful moments that truly ‘completed’ the series for me.
Like I said, this was the story that got my uncertain self-hooked to the fandom. Years later, I’m still here—still in love with Edward/Bella, still rooting for every E/B pairing in the fandom to have their happy ending, and I’ve even created a few worlds of my own for them.
I’ll leave you with a few excerpts from the story that convey how beautiful it is, better than my words ever could.

“I would welcome Bella into my world. I would have her forever. My revelation, my overwhelming acceptance of this truth, freed me of a crushing weight that had slowly chipped away at my sanity since I fell for her. I realized that only when I finally refused to carry its burden anymore was I finally free.”

“I’m here, Bella,” I whispered in my epiphany. “I won’t ever leave you again. You have renewed me and created life from a part of me. A gift I could never have imagined and I finally understand. Our child is the best part of each of us. It is worthy of love.”
Love Ed-word.
The sound of my child’s mind echoing my words created calm laughter.

I looked into Renesmee’s wide, inquisitive eyes. Everything was so new to her! Exciting and fun with every second providing a new discovery. And she took it all in, processing and making use of the information, almost like connecting the dots.
“Aunt Alice is going to take our picture,” I explained. “Papa Carlisle said you are growing very fast. Does that hurt, my angel?”
Renesmee no hurt, Daddy.
“Daddy never wants you to hurt, Renesmee. Daddy will always protect you.”
